One of the reason we went to Tokyo Tower was because the Mr. Donut Pon de Lion Park is there! Mr. Donut is a donut franchise that started in the US and was introduced in the Japanese market in 1983.
The Pon de Lion Park is a special Mr. Donut theme store that uses a lion as the mascot. The store has a big table in the middle showcasing the lion. The walls are also decorated with other animal characters. Since we went to the store really early, we were the only one there and was able to take a lot of photos with the lion!
After all the photo ops, we finally placed our order. Since it’s my first time there, I have to order the lion donut. Basically it’s the Mr. Donut donut ring with the donut hole put back in the ring. A piece of chocolate with the lion’s face is then placed on top. Aside from the cuteness, the donut is actually really good! The dough is a bit different. It seems more chewy, like a mochi. I heard only the pon de ring donut line, which forms the “mane” of the lion, have this texture. The rest of the donuts are more like the ones we have here in Canada.
The best part about the pon de lion donut is that you get to eat the whole donut: the ring and the donut hole! When we were there, they also have a limited time Snoopy character donut. I didn’t try them because we were going to walk around Tokyo Tower where there are more food! If you visit the Tokyo Tower then you have to try the pon de ring or pon de lion from Mr. Donut’s Pon de Lion Park!
